# Use with an AI assistant

You do not need to be a developer to use the Dokaa API. AI assistants (ChatGPT,
Claude, Gemini, building tools like Lovable, Cursor or Claude Code) can read
our API description and write the integration for you: a dashboard, a weekly
report, a spreadsheet sync. Describe what you want in plain words.

## Step 1: copy-paste starting prompt

Open your AI assistant and send:

```text
Read the Dokaa API documentation before writing any code. The table of
contents is at:
https://api.dokaa.app/docs/llms.txt
Every API request requires my API key in a header:
"Authorization: Bearer <key>".
My API key is: dk_live_PASTE_YOUR_KEY_HERE
Build me: a simple web page showing the average rating and latest reviews
of each of my restaurants.
If what you build is shared or public, my key must never be visible to
anyone else. At the end, explain to me step by step, assuming I know
nothing about code, how to run what you built.
```

Change the "Build me" sentence to describe what **you** want, and replace the
key placeholder with your own key (step 2). Your assistant reads the
documentation directly from this site, so it always works from the latest
version: there is nothing to download, and nothing that can go stale.

## Step 2: your API key

Create your **API key** from your Dokaa profile: **My account → API keys →
Create a key**. It is a long secret code starting with `dk_`, and it is what
allows a tool to read *your* data (and nobody else's). The documentation is
free to read; the key is only needed when your assistant calls the API on
your behalf.

## Keep your key safe

Your API key gives read access to your business data. Three rules:

- **Only paste your key into an assistant or tool you trust** (your ChatGPT
  or Claude account, your company's tools), never into a random website.
- If what you build is a **public web page**, the key must not be visible in
  it: anyone could read it. The prompt above already asks your assistant to
  take care of this.
- If you think your key leaked, disable it from your Dokaa profile and
  create a new one. It takes a minute, and the old key stops working
  immediately.

## Good things to ask for

- "A weekly email summarizing my reviews and average rating per restaurant"
- "A dashboard comparing my shops: reviews, missed calls, campaign results"
- "Export all my contacts with a loyalty membership to a spreadsheet"
- "Alert me when my Google Maps ranking drops on one of my keywords"

Everything the API exposes is described in the [reference](/docs/api/shops/listshops/),
and everything in it is read-only: an AI mistake cannot modify or delete your
Dokaa data.

## For developers and AI tools

This documentation follows the [llms.txt convention](https://llmstxt.org):
every page exists in a form designed for AI tools rather than browsers.

- `/docs/llms.txt` – structured overview of the whole API: every guide,
  every endpoint, one line each, with links
- `/docs/llms-full.txt` – the entire documentation concatenated in a single
  file, for tools that cannot follow links
- Append `.md` to any page URL for its raw markdown version, e.g.
  `/docs/quickstart.md` or `/docs/api/reviews/listreviews.md`
- `/docs/openapi.yaml` – the complete machine-readable API description
  (OpenAPI 3.1)

These routes are public: any tool can read them, no key needed. Only the
API itself (`/v1`) requires your key. In Cursor, add
`https://api.dokaa.app/docs/llms.txt` through the `@Docs` feature; in any
other tool, give it that URL as a starting point.
